What to include on a freelance invoice

• Your client's name, company and address
• A unique invoice number, issue date and due date
• A description of the work, with hours or units and your rate
• Tax, if you are registered to charge it
• Payment terms and how the client can pay you

Hourly vs. project-based invoices

For hourly work, add one line item per task or week with the number of hours as the quantity and your hourly rate as the rate. For fixed-price projects, add one line per milestone or deliverable with a quantity of 1.

If a client paid a deposit up front, enter it as an amount paid: BillOak automatically shows the remaining balance due.

Tips to get paid faster

• Send the invoice as soon as the work is delivered
• Use short, clear payment terms such as "Due in 14 days"
